This course reviews the complex dynamics of adoption, for the birth mother, adoptive parents and adoptee. Using a literature review and reports of people with adoptive experiences, this course helps social workers more effectively assist their patients to work through the guilt, abandonment fears, anger, joy and other feelings involved.

Assigned readings from The Primal Wound by Nancy Verrier will be the focus. Bring this book with you on Tuesday May 9, or IIGP will have available to purchase for $10.00 on May 9, 2017.

Participants will:

  1. Identify the common psycho-dynamics in adoption.
  1. Recognize their own reactions to the adoption experience.
  1. List factors which enhance the success for people involved in adoption.
